WICHITA, JUNE 18, 2010 - Help support the Via Christi Regional Burn Center Patient and Family Assistance Fund by attending the Smoke Eaters benefit barbecue, 6 p.m. June 19 at Southlakes Softball Complex, 5302 S. Meridian (near 47th St. South and Meridian).
Tickets for the Saturday night barbecue are available at the event or buy them now at Via Christi Gift Shops at Via Christi Hospitals on St. Francis and East Harry:
$10 for ages 12 to adult
$5 for ages 5-11
Free for children 4 and under
The event, which includes a weekend softball tournament, now is in its 15th year, and helps provide Via Christi Regional Burn Center with “little touches of home,” like in-room stereos and DVD players to help make hospital stays more pleasant for burn patients and their families. The money raised also goes to a patient assistance fund for things such as sending kids to burn camp and adults to burn conferences where they can interact with other survivors.
The Via Christi Regional Burn Center is the only dedicated burn care facility within a three-hour drive of Wichita.
“From the start, Smoke Eaters’ mission has been to offer a helping hand to burn patients on their difficult road to recovery,” said Jim Barber, president of Via Christi Foundation, sponsor of this year’s tournament. “That’s why we so appreciate the heartfelt generosity of the tournament organizers and participants — and we know our patients feel the same way!”
The Saturday event also includes a burn survivor recognition ceremony, starting with a helicopter fly-in at 6 p.m. at the softball complex.
Afterwards, participants will enjoy:
